ESMS

What is ESMS?
ESMS is a non-ionic emulsifier with the INCI name Polysorbate 60. It is a versatile surface active agent used to create stable oil-in-water emulsions in various formulations. Due to its skin-friendly properties and effective emulsifying ability, ESMS has a wide range of applications in both cosmetic and pharmaceutical products.

How is ESMS made?
Polysorbate 60 is produced by the ethoxylation of sorbitan monostearate. In this process, hydrophilic polyethylene glycol groups are linked to a lipophilic stearic acid component. This results in a compound that is highly soluble in water and forms a bridge between the water and fat phases. The end product is a liquid to viscous agent that is easy to incorporate into formulations.
The function of ESMS
ESMS promotes the stability and homogeneity of emulsions, giving products a pleasant texture and long shelf life. It helps to distribute active ingredients evenly, supports moisture retention and prevents phase separation. Due to its mild nature, it is suitable for use in products intended for sensitive skin.
ESMS across different industries
