What is ESMP?
ESMP is a non-ionic emulsifier with the INCI name Polysorbate 40. It is used to mix oil and water into stable emulsions. ESMP is a versatile ingredient in both cosmetic and industrial applications. It offers excellent solubility, good tolerability and a broad applicability, which makes it often used in formulations for personal care, pharmaceuticals and technical cleaning.

How is ESMP made?
Polysorbate 40 is produced by the ethoxylation of sorbitan monopalmitate. In this process, polyethylene glycol chains are added to the sorbitan ester, resulting in a hydrophilic character that allows mixing of oil and water phases. This combination makes ESMP an effective emulsifier and solvent for fragrances, essential oils and other hydrophobic substances.
The function of ESMP
ESMP helps to stabilize emulsions and dissolve fat-soluble ingredients in aqueous systems. In addition, it promotes the dispersion of active ingredients in cosmetic and pharmaceutical products. Its mild action makes it suitable for use on skin and hair. In addition, ESMP contributes to the consistency and spreadability of products.
