What is wheat germ oil?

Wheat germ oil, also known as triticum vulgare, is a natural vegetable oil that is extracted from the germ of wheat. This oil is known for its high content of nutrients, including vitamin E, essential fatty acids, and antioxidants. Wheat germ oil has a light golden color and a characteristic, nutty odor. How is triticum vulgare made?

Triticum vulgare is obtained by cold pressing the wheat germ. This is a careful method that preserves the nutrients and biological properties of the oil. During the process, the wheat grains are first milled to separate the germ from the rest of the grains. Then, the germ is pressed to extract the oil. Cold pressing is the most common method because it guarantees the pure quality of the oil. The process produces a high-quality product rich in vitamins and antioxidants, without the use of chemicals or solvents.

The function of wheat germ oil

Wheat germ oil is known for its powerful moisturizing and nourishing properties, mainly due to its high vitamin E content. This vitamin is a strong antioxidant that helps neutralize free radicals, which protects the skin from premature aging and damage from external influences. In addition, wheat germ oil contains essential fatty acids that strengthen the skin barrier and maintain moisture levels. This makes the oil particularly suitable for the care of dry, damaged or mature skin. Wheat germ oil is also often used to improve the elasticity of the skin, which can help reduce stretch marks and scars.

Triticum vulgare in various industries

Wheat germ oil is used in many industries, especially in the cosmetics and food industries.

In cosmetics, it is a popular ingredient in skin care products such as creams, lotions and serums for its moisturizing and protective properties. It is also often added to hair care products to nourish and add shine to the hair.

In the food industry, wheat germ oil is sometimes used as a dietary supplement because of its high vitamin E content and the presence of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, which contribute to healthy heart function and overall vitality.

In the pharmaceutical industry, wheat germ oil is also valued for its healing and caring properties. For example, it is used in ointments and creams to treat skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis.

In the technical industry, wheat germ oil is increasingly used as a bio-lubricant. Because it is a vegetable oil, it is an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional petroleum-based lubricants. It is used in hydraulic systems and other machinery where environmentally friendly lubricants are required.
